EHS Professionals

Who are we?

  • EHS professionals’ backgrounds are varied.  Most come to this field from the natural and physical sciences, and some come from engineering and other technical areas.

  • EHS professionals have a technical, command-and-control, and compliance based orientation  This is a direct result of EHS teaching as well as day-to-day activities implementing EHS requirements.
Our Challenge
  • In this orientation, there are limits on what EHS professionals can accomplish.  For some of us, this has led to weak partnerships and a sense of futility.

  • We have a sense that we can be more effective and impact our organizations, but we are not sure how.

Developing New Capacities

To keep pace we need to develop new capacities that go beyond our traditional technical training.  This new orientation requires skills in

  • Systems thinking, and
  • Generating alignment

With the increasing complexity of our organizational interrelationships, we need new tools to assess current conditions, develop vision, and chart the path for fulfillment.  A key aspect of this is the ability to generate alignment in the diverse areas of our organizations.

At Redinger & Associates Inc. we are EHS professionals ourselves and understand these challenges.  We have worked with hundreds of organizations on EHS issues and have observed a wide range of scenarios.  From our experience and research, our view is that to reach the pinnacle of integration, EHS professionals need to expand their skill base and gain strengths in a new beyond-compliance orientation.
