Biographical Overview Charles Redinger, Ph.D. MPA CIH
Redinger was instrumental in the initiation and completion of the important EHS management system standards-development work done by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the American National Standards Institute. His management system models have been used throughout the world by governmental agencies, standards-developers, researchers, and private organizations including the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, OSHA, the U.S. Department of Defense, and the Singapore Ministry of Manpower. He is the President of Redinger & Associates, Inc. (RAI) in Harvard, Massachusetts. Since the early 1990s, he has been at the forefront of environmental health & safety management system and performance measurement research and methods development. He works for a wide range of public and private sector organizations in their efforts to improve environmental health and safety performance. He is an adjunct professor at Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He writes and teaches extensively on EHS performance improvement and system implementation. Redinger has a Ph.D. in Industrial Health from the University of Michigan, a Master's in Public Policy from the University of Colorado, and a BA in Chemistry from the University of California at Santa Cruz. He is a member of the Public Policy honor society Phi Alpha Alpha; and, has been a Kemper Fellow in Public Health and an Erb Fellow in Environmental Management. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, and is a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. He has worked in OSHA’s Office of Regulatory Analysis and Office of Statistics, and performed complex risk assessments for the Department of Justice and Environmental Protection Agency. He was a technical advisor to the ILO OHS management system, ANSI/AIHA Z10, and Canadian Standards Association OHS management system committees. He has been active in the American Industrial Hygiene Association: Management Committee Chair; Northern California Section President; and Risk Assessment Committee Chair.
